Vienna, Austria

July 12-14, 2018

I took a 1 hour train from Schaffhausen back to Zurich, then took an 11 hour bus ride from Zurich to Vienna, stopping for approximately 45 minutes in Munich. My travel day started in Schaffhausen at 9:30am and I arrived at my hostel in Vienna at about 11:30pm. Long. Ass. Day. But after sleeping and eating some normal food, I realized that Vienna is BEAUTIFUL! I know I still have much of Europe to explore, but I’m making a prediction that Vienna will be one of my top 5 fav European cities.

6 Month Check In

July 4, 2018

I’ve been traveling for just over 6 months now. Since the last check in, I have grown, learnt, and experienced more than I can fathom.

With traveling alone, I have a lot of time to read. So, I thought I’d share the list of books I’ve read during this 6 months of traveling! Most books I found at hostel book exchanges, others I found at quirky book stores.

Porto, Portugal

July 2-4, 2018

Porto greeted me with overcast, scattered rain showers. To be honest, it was a bit of a relief from the heat of the south!

Let me just tell ya, every Portuguese person must have buns of steel because every city seems to be built on the most hilly terrain possible! It’s like they¬†enjoy walking up hill, then down hill, then up another hill! Something that is 1km away from you takes 20 minutes to get to due to these absurd hills! Anyways, rant over, Porto is beautiful.

Portimao, Portugal

June 28-30, 2018

I arrived in the south of Portugal, welcomed by sunshine and a hoard of Englishmen at my hostel.

During my time in Portimao I indulged in beaches, pastel de nata (gotta get my fill while I’m here…), and “football”. I will henceforth refer to soccer as football, because apparently it is disgraceful and utterly embarrassing to call it soccer.

The Lagos area (where Portimao is located) is known for its cliffs and rock formations. The beaches are surrounded by red-orange-tan cliffs and caves – possibly the most beautiful beaches I have seen yet… Possibly… I have seen a lot of gorgeous beaches this year, it’s difficult to pick a favourite. The two beaches I visited were Praia do Vau, and Benagil Beach.

Lisbon, Portugal

June 25-27, 2018

I love Lisbon.

Lisbon is known as the “City of Seven Hills”, and, boy, can I vouch for that. Every time you turn the corner. There is another hill.

But it is worth the hike. Because Lisbon also seems to be the city of lookout points!

Barcelona, Spain

June 23-25, 2018

Hola, Barcelona!

After saying hasta luego to my parents and taking (yet another, I must stop doing this to myself) a hellish night bus, I have arrived in Catalonia.

With little/no sleep I did a walking tour, my fav thing to do on day one in a new city. We walked around the Gothic Quarter and I learnt tons about the history of the city and Catalonia region. I was also astounded by how influential art is in Barcelona! The famous artists who inhabited this wondrous city all left legacies that can still be seen today – most markedly being Antoni Gaudi.

Gibraltar, England

June 14, 2018

On June 9, I arrived in Spain to meet my mom and dad. Malaga, to be exact. This was the first time I’d seen my parents in nearly 6 months, and I was thriiiilled to spend quality time, while showing them a new part of the world.

We spent one week lounging in Marbella, and another week lounging in Denia. Pictures of 2 weeks-worth of lounging are not so interesting… So I will share with you one of the day trips that we did to Gibraltar!

Rome, Italy

May 28-June 1, 2018

My life became the Lizzie McGuire movie for 5 days. And it was amazing.

Jessica ventured out of Canada for the first time in her life to meet me here! It is such a relief to spend time with someone that I actually know and knows me. Meeting new friends is great, but this is a much welcomed comfort.
